SUMMARY
Stems loosely clustered, spreading by long rhizomes, to 1.5 m tall, 0.4–0.7 cm diameter, reddish, sometimes new shoots developing on the stem. Leaves pinnate; sheaths 4.5–10 cm long, green with reddish-brown hairs; petioles 2–4.5 cm long; rachis 0.15–0.4 m long; pinnae 3–20 per side of rachis, lighter green abaxially, falcate, regularly arranged, distantly spaced, the middle one 7–15 cm long, 1–4 cm wide. Inflorescences pendulous; peduncles 1 cm long, 0.2 cm wide; rachis absent; rachillae 1(–4), 2–6 cm long, slender, zig-zag, flattened in cross-section, glabrous; triads arranged distichously, superficial on rachillae. Male flowers not seen; female flowers 2 mm long; sepals 2 mm long, rounded at the apices, ciliate; petals 2 mm long, ciliate. Fruits ovoid, to 1.8 cm long, 1 cm diameter, ripening red to black.
