SUMMARY
Caespitose shrub with individual stems up to 1.6 m tall and 4–10 cm diam. Leaves spirally arranged; sheath 30–75 cm long; petiole 1–1.5 m long; rachis 0.8–1.3 m long, with 5–10 pinnae per side, alternate, more or less evenly spaced except basaly, and distributed in one plane, longest pinnae on the mid portion up to 80 cm long, lanceolate, not lobed or indistinctly so. Male inflorescence to 10, up to 20 cm long rachillae, flowers up to 0.6 cm long, stamens 16–19; female inflorescences with rachillae up to 11 cm long, female flowers c. 0.3 cm long. Fruit ovoid, up to 1.1 x 0.8 cm, red to purple.
