SUMMARY
Solitary palm 3–5 m tall. Stem c. 5.5–7 cm diam. Leaf sheath 120–130 cm long, extended in a chartaceous, c. 70 cm long ocrea; petiole up to 2.3 m long, armed basally with flattened up to 0.7–0.8 cm long spines; blade divided in 33–35 segments; mid segment with 3 adaxial ribs, sometimes petiolulate, c. 75 cm long, the remaining segments with 2 adaxial ribs, the basal ones 48–52 cm long; indentations leading to the adaxial ribs 11–12 cm long, those leading to the abaxial ribs 4–6.5 cm long. Inflorescence up to 2.5 m long, with about six branched partial inflorescences; peduncle to 50 cm long; prophyll 25–30 cm long, to 3.5 cm wide; peduncular bract one, 25–30 cm long, splitting irregularly at the apex only; partial inflorescence with 3–5, up to 40 cm long rachillae. Flowers borne on c. 0.25 cm long pedicels, solitary, buds spindle-shaped, 1–1.1 x 0.35–0.4 cm; calyx 0.4–0.5 cm long; corolla 0.7–0.8 cm long, glabrous, cream white, reflexed at anthesis; filaments free distally, not forming a staminal ring. Fruit 1.5–1.7 x 1–1.2 cm, ovoid.
