SUMMARY
Shrubby, acaulescent to short-stemmed, clustering palms. Leaf palmate, induplicate; sheath disintegrating into long persistent, coarse fibres; petiole elongate, unarmed; adaxial hastula distinct, triangular, shallow, with erose margin, abaxial hastula obscure; blade splitting for half to two thirds their radius along the adaxial ribs into numerous, single-fold segments, these shallowly indented at the tip. Inflorescence interfoliar; branched to 1–3 orders; peduncular bracts 1–3; rachis bracts tubular with triangular limbs. Flowers small, hermaphroditic or unisexual, inserted in groups of 2–3 or solitary; stamens 6 fused to form a shortly epipetalous, staminal tube; gynoecium of three free carpels, shortly united basally, hairy distally, with triangular styles. Fruit one-seeded, globose to ellipsoid, less than 1 cm diam.; epicarp silky hairy in young stages; mesocarp thin, fleshy; endocarp poorly developed. Seed with homogeneous endosperm, intrusion of the seed coat lateral and shallow. Germination remote; eophyll very narrow, strap-shaped.
