SUMMARY
Solitary palm tree 20–40 m tall. Stem 50–90 cm diam., swollen at the middle, internodes 20–30 cm long, basally with conspicuous cone of adventitious roots. Leaves 6–15, forming a compact crown rounded in outline; sheath 1.25–1.50 m long, green with dense greyish tomentum; petiole 0.5 –1 m long; rachis 4–5.5 m long, straight, with 18–24 pinnae on each side, evenly distributed in one plane, curved to drooping distally, divided into up to 20–25 pinnules on each side, pinnules evenly distributed in one plane, up to 20–35 cm long, 2–3 times as long as wide, dark green on both sides, praemorse and lobed distally. Inflorescences 3–5; peduncle to 0.50–1 m long, strongly curved distally; rachis to 2.5–4 m long, drooping, rachillae 150–200, 1.2–1.8 m long, drooping. Fruit globose, 1.5–2 cm diam., red. Seeds mostly two per fruit, endosperm ruminate. Seedling leaves bifid.
