SUMMARY
Solitary, acaulescent palm. Stem short subterranean. Leaf petiole to 90 cm long, scarcely armed in basal 10 cm, spines c. 0.2 cm long, recurved and set more or less regularly 1 cm apart; lamina divided in 3–4 gently curved segments, converging basally in a funnel-like fashion, mid segment c. 32 cm long, with 19 adaxial ribs, slightly curved lateral margins, rounded apically and c. 12 cm wide, the remaining segments 15–20 cm long, with 2–5 adaxial ribs, narrowly wedge-shaped to linear, obliquely truncate apically; indentations leading to the adaxial folds c. 0.5 cm long in mid segment to 2 cm long in remaining segments, those leading to the abaxial folds less than 5 mm long. Inflorescence patent, shorter than leaves, c. 30 cm long, with 2–3 partial inflorescences; peduncle c. 18 cm long; prophyll loosely sheathing; peduncular bracts absent; rachis c. 12 cm long; basal rachis bract c. 8 cm long, inflated in distal half; partial inflorescences spicate, inserted up to 8 cm above the mouth of their subtending bracts; rachillae up to 8 cm long, 1–2 mm diam., rigid, straight to slightly zig-zagged, narrowly diverging from rachis, densely covered with deciduous ferruginous felt like hairs. Flowers in groups of up to 5(–7) on slightly swollen tubercles (prominent in fruiting specimens), solitary towards the apex; calyx cylindrical, 2.6–3.2 mm long, chartaceous, covered with scattered 0.4–0.7 mm long simple hairs, splitting neatly into three pointed lobes; corolla c. 2.5–3.2 mm long, rather thick, covered with patent white hairs in upper two thirds, glabrescent towards the base, lobes c. 2 mm long with acuminate apex; androecium with c. 0.5–0.7 mm high, truncate staminal ring; filaments filiform, c. 0.3 mm long; anthers reniform, c. 0.5 mm long; ovary 1–1.5 mm long turbinate to club-shaped, densely covered with coarse silky white hairs mostly on upper parts, style filiform, 1 mm high. Fruit globose, c. 0.8–1 cm diam.
